Hi everyone,
In a little over two months, from 17 to 23 June, we’ll be taking on the absurd amounts wasted on nuclear weapons in a massive week of action! We hope you're as excited as we are.
To help in your preparations and outreach, we’ve collected the facts and a variety of tools and created a dedicated calendar in a resources hub at icanw.org/week_of_action. We'll be adding more over the coming weeks, and I wanted to invite you to please start adding your actions & events to the calendar! We’ve heard from a few of you already about some exciting plans in the US, Scotland and Italy among others, and would love to know what the rest of you are planning. There are so many different ways to take action on this topic, from a demonstration, a meeting with your local city officials about divesting, a phone call party to challenge your bank about their investments to an (online) awareness raising action. No matter what you have in mind, please list your action on the dedicated calendar, as this is the best way to inspire others to join. You may have seen that SIPRI released the overall global military spending data earlier this week. We’re now hard at work to investigate what share of that is nuclear weapons -and run the numbers on what we could get for that money instead - to finalise our yearly nuclear spending report. We will of course be letting you know when launch approaches, but if you’re keen to get more involved in the planning for the week of action, please save the date for an organisers call on Thursday May 16th (9AM and 9PM CET) which will also be open to anyone outside the ICAN campaign who wants to learn more about nuclear spending and how to join the week of action. Come June, we'll be sending a clear message: our future doesn’t need nuclear weapons—it needs investment in peace, people, and the planet.
Hope you’ll be part of it.
Best,
Lucero Oyarzun (she/her)
